As long as you're alive, you should dance as much as you can!
In the historic center of Oaxaca City, in an 18th-century building, Salón Alcalá is a space created by dancer Mary Jane Gagnier with the professional contributions of teachers and friends. A passion for dancing is the only requirement!
Salón Alcalá
Dance, Art, Life reflects Mary Jane’s lifelong passion for the arts. Mary Jane personally selected the original artwork for the staircase, the local basketry, and, most notably, the hand-woven tapestry on the stage by the late Arnulfo Mendoza.
To create the atmosphere of classic 1960s ballrooms, she collaborated with Ángel Aragón, a friend, dance teacher, and photographer. Their idea was to create a collection of large-format photos—frozen in time—set in iconic locations throughout the city with renowned dancers.
